If you are interested in pursuing graduate studies after Bucknell the CCA is one of many resources you should consult throughout the process. The CCA is here to review your resume or CV, help you practice your interviewing skills as well as explore networking contacts within your selected discipline.

One of your first steps may be connecting with your faculty advisor or a Bucknell Graduate School Advisor who can help you explore your interest, specific programs, contacts and application process.

The pre-health and pre-law advising within the CCA helps students and alumni who are considering a career in health care or law. If you decide that health care or law is the right path for you, we’ll help you practice for exams, prepare your application and connect you with alumni working in the field.

Additional campus resources in the Writing Center and Office of Undergraduate Fellowships & Research, both located in the Carnegie building.

Speech-language pathologists work with children and adults who have problems with speech and language, including related cognitive or social communication problems. They may be unable to speak at all, or they may speak with difficulty or have rhythm and fluency problems, such as stuttering. Speech-language pathologists may work with people who are unable to understand language or with those who have voice disorders, such as inappropriate pitch or a harsh voice.

Often work in healthcare or school settings.

Certification – Speech-language pathologists can earn the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), offered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Certification typically satisfies some or all of the requirements for state licensure and may be required by some employers. To earn CCC-SLP certification, candidates must graduate from an accredited program, pass an exam, and complete a fellowship under the supervision of a certified speech-language pathologist. To maintain the CCC-SLP credential, speech-language pathologists must complete 30 hours of continuing education every 3 years.

SLP is usually within Psychology departments.

American Speech Language Hearing Association – Planning Your Education

“A bachelor’s degree is required for admission to graduate programs in either audiology or speech-language pathology. However, each graduate program determines whether applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in CSD—and, if not, whether prerequisite undergraduate courses are required, either before admission or as part of the graduate program. More information about these pathways to graduate programs is provided below. You can search EdFind for programs that do not require prerequisites for admission.”

The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is the only national student organization for pre-professionals studying communication sciences and disorders (CSD) recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Established in 1972, NSSLHA supports 11,700+ members and 340+ chapters at colleges and universities nationwide.

SLP Graduate School Test Scores and GPA

Question to Alison P about scores on GRE scores: It’s tough to put a number on it since every program will have different average scores, but the 50th percentile or higher is a good number to shoot for in general.
